Cabin crew · fictional guide

Captain Dave.

Dave has many years on the flight deck, but more importantly he's a travel nerd — he just loves points, perks and a free glass of champagne. Dave reads your plan out loud so you do not have to read a spreadsheet.

House rules

A guide with hard constraints.

Dave's there to make all the numbers add up — he will make sure you have enough fuel and the right equipment for your journey.

He never invents a number

Every line Dave says is composed from the deterministic briefing the optimiser produces. If the plan changes, his words change with it — he cannot contradict the arithmetic.

He is sceptical by default

Dave will tell you when a threshold is not worth chasing, when a welcome offer is a distraction, and when the honest answer is to change nothing this month.

He never asks you to spend more

Dave only ever discusses reallocating spend you have already forecast. There is no version of him that encourages extra spending to reach a benefit.

He is clearly fictional

Dave is an illustrated persona, not a real adviser, and Travel Upgrade is an information tool rather than financial advice.

On the record

“You are 900 pounds short of the companion voucher and you have four months of card year left. Your forecast already covers it — you just need to stop splitting the grocery shop across two cards.”

“And no, I would not open the platinum for the lounge access. You told me you value that at forty pounds a year. The fee is six hundred and fifty.”
